nba finals 2010 game 7 - l.a. lakers vs. boston celtics

final score: 83-79, lakers.

details: lakers win their 16th overall championship, and 5th title for kobe bryant, derek fisher, and coach phil jackson. this is phil jackson’s 11th overall title as a coach, and 13th as a player/coach.

special note: second lowest point total for a finals game 7 since the introduction of the 24-second shot clock.

kobe bryant and the lakers win their 16th championship, and the 5th for kobe, 83-79. boston celtics couldn’t pull through, and after all the stats, history, and expectations going in, the purple and gold came out victorious.

gg, sorry all you haters, anti-kobe, and anything-but-lakers bandwagoners, its done and done. peace, see you next year in the tri-peat!

kobe bryant and the lakers spanked the boston celtics tonight with a 89-67 game, the largest lead in the finals series this year and the lowest scoring output by the celtics so far. when kendrick perkins went down in the first quarter, the lakers had a clear advantage throughout the rest of the game (officially diagnosis: sprained knee) and showed it with a huge blowout win.

kobe bryant went 9 for 19, with 26 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals, pau gasol went 17 points, 13 rebounds, and 9 assists, lamar odom went 8 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks, artest had a good game with 6 for 11 shooting and 15 points. the lakers had help from sasha vujacic (who i hate, but he did have a great game today) with who had 9 points off the bench.

rajon rondo, who has been playing as a mvp the whole nba playoff season, went an abysmal 5 for 15, 0 for 2 free throws, with 5 rebounds and 6 assists. normally that’s an okay stat line, but considering the 10 misses were a large majority of open looks and lay-ups. the lakers are letting him shoot, and its showing why he isn’t a consistent player enough to carry the celtics. the rest of the bench went 12 points to the lakers 25 points off the bench. the glasswork was superbly controlled by the lakers, with 52 rebounds to the celtic’s 39.

with history on the lakers side, and momentum being carried by them, watch and see kobe bryant and the rest of the lakers close out and win their 16th overall final, and bryant get his 5th ring. thursday can’t come any sooner.

lakers lose game 4 in boston, losing to the boston celtics with the score of 96-89. with shotty refereeing, and the inability to hold the lead, the lakers should have won the game here but couldn’t contain the bench play of glen “big baby” davis and nate robinson, despite kobe bryant’s stellar 3 point shooting and boston’s inability to finish on lay-ups, this is the first time the finals have gone 2-2 in the series since 2006. however, with history still siding with kobe bryant and the lakers, with any team going 2-1 after game 3 going 10-0 in the nba finals, and phil jackson coached teams were 47-0 since winning game 1 of any series.

if the foul call on kobe bryant had gone the other way (the way it should have, since he was above the restricted area), and been a charge, i think the game would have ended differently. that call cost the lakers 3 points and a possession. these referees are killing the finals this year, for both sides.

game 5 is on sunday,on abc/espn/tsn at 8 pm est.

on a side note, its interesting to note that both game 2 and 4 losses, lakers had a lead going into the 4th, but lost it both times. whereas games 1 and 3, lakers had a commanding lead and held onto it. boston has never led going into the 4th, and it just shows, the celtics won’t be able to ride it out past game 6. i may be off about game 5 prediction, but i can still see this ending by game 6 for the lakers.

oh, and i guess paul pierece is heading back to l.a. sweet.

nba finals 2010. lakers are up 2-1, after a 91-84 victory in the td waterhouse building. after a dismal 10 of 29 showing from kobe, derek fisher saved the day with 11 points in the 4th quarter, including a coast-to-coast layup. coupled with history that phil jackson’s teams are 47-0 when winning game 1 of any playoff series, and that in teams that have won after a split since the 2-3-2 format has been adapted, teams that won game 3 went 10-0 to win the finals, and have won 28 out of 32 times in finals history.

can boston fight back? yes, but in regards to the poor game by paul pierce and ray allen (who went 0 for 13), so too did kobe bryant and pau gasol. plus fouls, missed calls, and whatnot affected both teams. i can recall clearly when ray allen pushed fisher in the face under the basket and didn’t get a call against him, so for celtics fans screaming unfair, it goes both ways. you get some calls, you lose some calls…

i still stand by my prediction that lakers will win it in 5. call it hometown pride, laker-love or whatever, but after paul pierce declared that “they ain’t going back to l.a.”, i still think, and firmly believe, that the lakers can clean it up by game 5. we’ve seen it happen in the last 2 out of the 3 series the lakers have faced, having finished off the thunder and suns in both game 6, in their opponent’s homecourt.

either way, game 4 will be another great game, happening thursday, at 9 pm est on tsn.

kobe bryant had a foul-plagued second game in the nba finals, where his lakers lost 103-94 to the boston celtics. now, before you jump in and say the lakers are done and out, there are several key points as to why this game should have been a win for the lakers.

1) the referees, to put it plainly, sucked ass. for both teams. they even saw an instant replay and still declared it boston’s ball. and two major non-contact calls went against the lakers. that’s three possessions that could have turned around the game, but that’s what happens when you have shit for referees that like to call the littlest contact and ruin whatever pace they had

2) whereas the first game, the celtics were never even close to winning, this game, the lakers had it till the last 5 minutes and 21 seconds (or so), with a 3-point lead. then the lakers allowed the celtics to go 16-4, which is already troubling enough as it is. two key steals from rondo also made sure the lakers had no chance to come back. whereas the celtics never got closer than 9 points in the 4th quarter, the lakers were up…shows that had a call gone one way or another, this may have been two wins for the lakers. but that’s basketball for you when you have shit for referees

3) giving props to where props are due. rajon rondo had an amazing game, but ray allen was on fire. going 11-20, he scored 8 3-pointers, setting a finals record. but to clarify, the celtics only won by 9, and had kobe bryant not been in foul trouble, and with artest going 1-10, fisher 2-8, you have to ask, was this clearly a boston win?

4) there will be some vengeance tomorrow. even though the lakers made a new playoff record of 14 blocked shots in a game, their offense will need to get it going. watch kobe try to get 9 3pointers (kidding of course, but we all know how competitive he is). the soft label is no longer there, as they play defense as hard, if not harder then the celtics do now. but their offense needs to score, and that can’t happen if artest shoots 9 possessions away and doesn’t get away with a score. as well, lamar odom is upset about his playing time, and we can probably guess something big is going to happen in game 3.

kobe bryant is one of the deadliest grudge holders in recent history in sports. he doesn’t forget, and he wants blood all the time. last year, the lakers had games similar to this, but came back stronger and dominated the game. kind of like how the thunder got worked after the two losses by the lakers.

game 3 will be a huge one, as it will tip the balance of favour into whoever wins it. i still stand by my prediction of lakers in 5, but i won’t be surprised if it goes to 6.

game 2. los angeles lakers vs. boston celtics. time for the lakers in their sunday best (read: white jerseys) to show why the celtics aren’t nothing but old dogs now bahaha.
