so last night, i went to one of my favourite places (scratch that, my ex-favourite) to go to grab a beer in downtown vancouver. it’s called steamworks brewing co. (located on 375 water st.), and if you have been near gastown, you would have definitely seen it as you walk past waterfront station and walk into gastown itself.
now, this place has amazing beer. pretty decent pubfare too. a great place to go to eat, chill, drink, or start the night off on the right foot. i haven’t had an issue, and we have always been there before. but, normally, when we’re the only group waiting, and there’s two large sections cleaned and ready to seat people, they wouldn’t hesitate to seat a group that wants drinks on a saturday night at 10 pm. however, the first time we asked we were told there’s no room.
legit, but when we see two large groups walk out, and gave it a good 5-10 minutes to clear up and what we thought, seat us. there was no indication of seating us after the wait, so i went in to check out the seating. bam, two large sections in front of the bar cleared and no one sitting there. so i went and talked to the hostess about seating us, and here was the kicker:
"we only seat groups that want to eat". those were her exact words. wtf, seriously??? you are telling me, you won’t seat a group (with no one else waiting) that wants drinks when you have two clear sections?? and YOU’RE A FREAKIN’ PUB? now, i was with a group of asians, and i’m starting to think if its just a) shitty company policy b) the hostess was being a cranky bitch or c) they don’t like asians.
regardless, i’m not buying anymore steamworks beer, or even going to that pub anymore. we found a nice place down the block, and they were more than willing to accommodate us (even gave a few drinks on the house, since it was our buddy’s birthday).
my advice stick to granville island brewery, and find somewhere else to drink up on the weekend.
and that, concludes my rant. :)
