tonight, lakers vs. clippers at staples center (clippers “home court”).

kobe bryant, chris paul, each lead their respective teams. game 2 of the season between division rivals starts tonight at 10:30pm est, 7:30pm pst. y’all already know where my money’s at…let’s hope the lakers “old legs” can keep it going tonight.

los angeles lakers, in a stunning turn of events, hired mike d’antoni to replace ousted coach mike brown after an abysmal 1-4 (and 0-8 preseason). phil jackson was originally in the mix (and the clear favourite) to become the head coach for the lakers, but talks broke down after salary negotiations, ability to skip road games, more say in player selections, and the eventual grooming/selection of his successor, led the lakers to go with d’antoni.

d’antoni is currently healing up from surgery, but should be back in a couple of weeks to take on the new role as head coach of the lakers.

i for one can say i’m quite happy to see this - a good fix for a high-power offence that hasn’t been producing. plus, dwight howard, kobe bryant, and steve nash all have played with d’antoni before - making the transition a lot easier.

let’s hope this leads to a title, as they have d’antoni for the next 4 years…

dwight howard to los angeles lakers

according to ESPN, dwight howard has been officially traded to the lakers via a 4-team deal. howard goes to lakers, andre iguodala goes to the denver nuggets, andrew bynum and jason richardson goes to the philidephia 76ers, and arron afflalo, al harrington, nikola vujecic, 76ers draft pick moe harkless, and 3 future protected first round picks from the lakers, nuggets, and 76ers to the orlando magic.

talk about reloading each team and getting it ready for the start of the 2012 season! lakers accomplish shaking up the roster while keeping key cog pau gasol, a player who has seen both good and bad days (and often great games and heart-wrenching performances), to play with now a star-studded starting 5 for the lakers (steve nash, kobe bryant, metta world peace, pau gasol, and dwight howard). pau gasol was dangled into the trade but ultimately was kept by the lakers. orlando gets their wish to restart their team and re-build, and 76ers gets an immediate impact player that they have been looking to bolster their playoff run that ended short this year.

guess bynum’s immaturity and antics were too much for the lakers to gamble on, and howard will be looked on to carry the franchise through whenever kobe decides to hang up his sneakers for good.

hot damn, i can’t wait for the start of the season!

nba finals 2010. lakers are up 2-1, after a 91-84 victory in the td waterhouse building. after a dismal 10 of 29 showing from kobe, derek fisher saved the day with 11 points in the 4th quarter, including a coast-to-coast layup. coupled with history that phil jackson’s teams are 47-0 when winning game 1 of any playoff series, and that in teams that have won after a split since the 2-3-2 format has been adapted, teams that won game 3 went 10-0 to win the finals, and have won 28 out of 32 times in finals history.

can boston fight back? yes, but in regards to the poor game by paul pierce and ray allen (who went 0 for 13), so too did kobe bryant and pau gasol. plus fouls, missed calls, and whatnot affected both teams. i can recall clearly when ray allen pushed fisher in the face under the basket and didn’t get a call against him, so for celtics fans screaming unfair, it goes both ways. you get some calls, you lose some calls…

i still stand by my prediction that lakers will win it in 5. call it hometown pride, laker-love or whatever, but after paul pierce declared that “they ain’t going back to l.a.”, i still think, and firmly believe, that the lakers can clean it up by game 5. we’ve seen it happen in the last 2 out of the 3 series the lakers have faced, having finished off the thunder and suns in both game 6, in their opponent’s homecourt.

either way, game 4 will be another great game, happening thursday, at 9 pm est on tsn.

kobe bryant interview after game 6. and what he plans to do to sasha vujacic later as promised haha.

kobe bryant + the lakers have secured their 3rd finals appearance in a row, and have the boston celtics again. after a thrilling game 5 and a heart-wrenching game 6, the lakers now host the boston celtics on thursday, june 3rd, at home as they have home-court advantage.

this will have the two most storied franchises facing off each other, and a rematch of the 2008 finals where kobe bryant was outplayed. as he said earlier, he’s not the type to let go of past grudges easily and has the green in his sights. kobe’s averaging 33.7 points, 8.3 assists, 7.25 rebounds, and sporting a 52.2 FG %, with 42.9 3PT % in the series against the suns, and expect that to carry over.

stay tuned for the post-game video clip where he says he’s gonna kill sasha vujacic for almost turning over game 6 to the suns.

ron artest - from nothing to everything, he not only bricked his first shot, but his second, open-look shot. notice the crowd goes “nooooooooooooooooooo!” when he shoots his second shot. then the suns make it a 101-101 game off of not only one, not two, but three 3-point shot attempts to score the last one. but then, off an airball artest redeems himself and puts back a shot with 0.9 seconds left.

lakers are now up 3-2, and can close it out on may 29, at the phoenix sucks…er suns.
